00:33:45<HP_Archivist>fireonlive: I can't speak for IA, but from what I understand noindex for *whole Discord server scrapes* is not wanted probably for legal reasons, e.g. illegal material. Which, in my case, was not even applicable. But that's just my guess. JS didn't say much other than they did not want material like that unless it's public.
00:34:39<HP_Archivist>Which is fine. I guess I'll have to deal with random Discord users in the future who might want something taken down for privacy, etc.
00:36:55<fireonlive>ahh okm
00:37:00<fireonlive>thanks!
00:37:21<fireonlive>i was pondering maybe uploading some discordchatexporters (in json format) in future so good to know
00:39:37<HP_Archivist>That's exactly what I used, the discordchatexporter tool. But I grabbed multiple formats for each server: html, json, etc and combined everything into a .zip
00:39:41<HP_Archivist>e.g. https://archive.org/details/hp-games-dot-net-discord-server
00:41:29<HP_Archivist>There's this grey area of archiving what is essentially public material without people really knowing. Because if they knew, they might object and throw a wrench into archival plans. So, in the effort of trying to appeal to both philosophies, I noindexed the Discord scrapes. Only accessible to those who have the link. But now they have to remain public. Oh well.
00:43:27<HP_Archivist>I talked with JAA about this a while back. And they reminded me that if it wouldn't be a 1:1 archival copy if I attempted to sanitize the chat logs of names and such. So, yeah.
