11:09:45<@JAA>Oh boy, the keyboard replacement procedure on the P14s G5 Intel...
11:10:09<@JAA>You basically have to disassemble the entire thing.
11:11:45<@JAA>Starts with removing the battery and SSD, then goes on to remove the termal system, speakers, I/O boards, system board, trackpad, smartcard reader, power button, LCD unit, and *then* you can access it...
11:50:00<steering>JAA: I will warn that sometimes it says that and then you don't have to do any of it.
11:50:30<steering>IDR what I was doing, maybe when installing WWAN card, but it told me to take apart like the entire thing and all I actually needed to do was remove the back cover basically.
11:51:11<steering>(technically, it didn't tell me to take apart the entire thing - I think it only said to take apart the upper parts if you needed to install antennas too ;))
11:58:20<@JAA>steering: Heh, yeah, and fingers crossed it won't get to that anyway. I've only had to replace a keycap once, never a full keyboard.
11:59:00<@JAA>Although I could remove the keyboard without any tools on one of my past laptops, and that was great for cleaning.

12:21:24<@JAA>The T14 vs P14s comparison (of the configurations in stock here) is pretty ridiculous. At the same price, you get an aluminium chassis (Intel models only, apparently!), a better CPU, a much better screen, and a bigger battery in the P14s.

14:57:32<nukke>JAA: the only difference between the P14s and T14s is the vPro/PRO version of the chips, everything else is identical. I think for a little bit the P series had better options for screen (T did not have an OLED option) but AFAIK they're offering that for the T now

19:30:51<@JAA>nukke: I never looked closer at the T14s because no Ethernet and soldered RAM are immediate disqualifications for me. In any case, my comment was mostly about the configurations available immediately here (= I'll have it tomorrow). The ones of the T14 all come with a plastic or partially metal case, relatively poor 1920x1200 panels, and a 52.5 or 57 Wh battery. The ones of the P14s come with full
19:30:57<@JAA>aluminium case, good 2560x1600 panels (slightly bigger, too, with a thinner bezel), and the 75 Wh battery. And with a much more capable CPU and a discrete GPU. So yeah, it's not even close.
