00:06:39<nukke>nicolas17: yes, for some games the performance difference is crazy large compared to Windows
00:07:42<nukke>However there are still missing (anti)features like anti-cheat on some games that doesn't work on linux. these are usually the most popular games
00:08:00<nukke>Roblox, call of duty, battlefield, Valorant, LoL
00:08:54<nukke>And other things like HDR, VR headsets, screen sharing and mostly functional audio on applications like discord
00:10:07<nukke>I think discord still breaks every other update on wayland
00:13:47<nukke>FireFly: Microsoft likes to lock some DirectX stuff to windows versions (:

09:07:34<steering>When I first switched (back) to Linux I did set up dualboot. I simply found that I never rebooted into Windows though.

09:15:02<FireFly>I picked up the steamdeck as a way to enjoy games in my steam library without having to deal with a windows machine, which has worked out pretty well.. but fortunately for me I don't really play much in way of recent games
09:15:12<FireFly>or at least not anything too demanding
09:15:36<steering>I also have a steamdeck but at that point I had already been on Linux on my desktop for a couple years?
09:16:03<anonymoususer852>Personally I hardly ever setup dualboot when I switched to Linux. It was almost always having Linux on a spare, initially older machines. Dualbooting with Windows were for like pre-built laptops that came with Windows.
09:16:27<steering>I know there are games out there with problems (i.e. anticheat) but I simply haven't run into any real problems.
09:17:26<steering>Tick "force proton" in steam for those games without official support, *occasionally* go check protondb for tips (usually just changing some game setting or launch flag), Lutris for non-steam games (particularly Blizzard)
09:17:54<anonymoususer852>I've heard there are problems with some programs like Adobe software suites, or like the explicit need for Microsoft Office or the likes.
09:18:23<anonymoususer852>^ as in those may not work with Linux. Then again, doesn't apply to me, just what I heard.
09:18:30<steering>To be fair the one game that I play with strict anticheat, I just play singleplayer so I don't care
09:18:57<steering>(halo mcc)
09:20:45<steering>I'm a bit surprised how poorly some games perform on max settings (given that I have a 9950X3D and a 5070 Ti) but of course I've never played them under Windows to compare against :D
09:21:12<anonymoususer852>I've stopped playing modern gaming titles awhile back. For gaming needs, it's either old games, sometimes needing to be emulated if the game is specific to a game console, or just playing on the game console itself. Anything modern in terms of gaming are just me mostly spectating on youtube.
09:21:36<steering>(Diablo 4 being the most recent example, I've been playing it with my wife and holy crap the performance is so bad on max)
09:22:11<steering>Yeah, mostly same. The list of games that nukke mentioned don't affect me in any way, the only one I've ever touched is LoL and LOL
09:23:32<steering>Cyberpunk works well though, BG3 works well (I'd say it's better on steam deck than PC too)
09:26:35<anonymoususer852>I assume it's just multiplayer games that has the likes of anticheat, and those anticheat don't work well with Linux. To an extent, you *may* get around with the likes of GPU passthrough if you have a capable setup, and that dualbooting isn't an option for you. Though I just don't understand what's with people yeeting Windows for Linux, only to find that certain things won't work, then to
09:26:41<anonymoususer852>develop this hatred towards it.
09:27:05<steering>Well, depends on the game :P
09:27:37<anonymoususer852>Not just games, but yeah.
09:27:56<steering>I mean as far as "just multiplayer games" lol
09:28:07<steering>There are some that block singleplayer modes or whatever I'm quite sure
09:28:20<steering>Hooray for always-online games
09:29:15<anonymoususer852>Denuvo with the whole, "you don't own the game, you own rights to use it" moment.
09:29:35<anonymoususer852>Denuvo, Sony, et. al.
09:40:34<anonymoususer852>"I've stopped playing modern gaming titles awhile back." Ok I lied, I did play the likes of OpenTTD, OpenRA and some simcity clone but free, now that I thought about it. :p
