22:43:02<audrooku|m>anyone have a local, uncompressed copy of twitterstream?
22:43:45<audrooku|m>I'd like to grep it for something from 2015-2019, but I can't download the absolute mountains of uncompressed files from the ia, don't have the bandwidth or storage atm
22:43:53<audrooku|m>would really appreciate it if someone would like to help me:)
22:44:03<audrooku|m>I'm just trying to find mentions of 'zalinki'
22:46:21<systwi_>I more than likely have neither the storage nor the data allowance (as per my ISP's data cap), but could you link me to its IA item?
22:46:37<audrooku|m>is it greppable? I can't download it either
22:47:20<systwi_>I don't know, it would depend on the format I guess.
22:47:56<audrooku|m>that's what I found initially, they're uncompressed tar files, I don't think they're searchable without downloading
22:49:37<systwi>Can you see what's in them? (it would really help if I had the link to it too, heh)
22:50:01<systwi>IA should have a "View Contents" hyperlink next to the archive.
22:50:23<systwi>in https://archive.org/download/identifier/ .
22:53:07<audrooku|m>oh.. I tried that before and it didn't load, inside the tar files are bz2 compressed json files
22:53:29<audrooku|m>I don't have the bandwidth to do anything remotely either
22:54:04<systwi_>Ah, there must be a large amount of files in the tarball then.
22:54:27<systwi_>The json files (when uncompressed, of course) should be greppable by feeding them through `gron' first.
22:55:07<audrooku|m>I'm sure they are but my concern is that I simply don't have the bandwidth to do this...
22:55:24<systwi_>Something like: curl 'https://archive.org/download/identifier/file.json.bz2' -o- bzip2 --decompress | gron | grep -i 'string'
22:55:32<systwi_>(unconfirmed, but that should be the general idea)
22:55:38<systwi_>Oops...
22:55:42<Jake>Just checking... you've tried Twitter search right?
22:55:44<systwi_>curl 'https://archive.org/download/identifier/file.json.bz2' -o- | bzip2 --decompress | gron | grep -i 'string'
22:55:47<Jake>Are you looking for a specific person's tweets?
22:56:53<systwi_>I see. That's fine, I was just pointing it out for others I guess.
22:57:52<audrooku|m>Jake: it's the worst search engine I've ever used
22:57:58<audrooku|m>Jake: no, mentions of a person
22:58:14<audrooku|m> not like @mentions just their name
22:58:30<Jake>Hmm
22:58:44<Jake>I'd probably start with twitter search before downloading everything... haha. Let me take a look for you
22:58:46<Jake>startingi n 2015?
22:59:10<audrooku|m>yeah, thanks:)
22:59:30<systwi_>Maybe Nitter's search would be better?: https://nitter.net/search
23:00:36<audrooku|m>twitter's search does that stupid "smart" search engine thing where it's impossible to find anything obscure and they hide naughty stuff and they only go so far back, etc, etc
23:00:52<audrooku|m>that's a bit better, but I'm just trying to find any users that so much as mention him, which is hard to do without grepping anything
23:01:00<audrooku|m>grepping everything*
23:03:59<Jake>Yeah. I'm not sure how much help I can offer on the searching aspect :-) Nitter's search options do look pretty good though. You can sort by media and the dudes name inside of a time range. Still might not find it though.
23:05:42<systwi_>https://nitter.net/search?f=tweets&q=zalinki&since=2015-01-01&until=2019-12-31&near= comes up with a handful of results.
23:06:12<systwi_>AFAIK it shouldn't censor NSFW tweets either.
23:06:20<systwi_>*by default
23:15:51<@JAA>audrooku|m: As far as I know, the search works quite reliably as long as your queries are simple. However, the web interface is shit. As of a couple months ago, there were cases where the web interface would stop loading results even though there were more. It also randomly returns 'no results' even though there actually are results. snscrape generally handles those cases, or at least I'm not aware of
23:15:57<@JAA>any it doesn't. So maybe give that a try instead.
