00:06:36<OrIdow6>Looks like you too are annoyed by their usage of "server"
00:10:28<atphoenix>yes. Misleading repurposing of words. And of course https://archiveteam.org/index.php?title=User:JustAnotherArchivist/Discord
00:13:06<OrIdow6>Would have been a good chance that AT, had it primarily operated through Discord, would have been banned after the Parler project in a similar preemptive PR strike
00:16:47<Ajay>in this case they say it was due to hate speech, not financial issues
00:18:44<OrIdow6>In any case, I get the impression that the real motivation was to avoid "Discord" being discussed critically in news articles
00:19:52<OrIdow6>(By the quotes, I distinguish the word, not allege that it's not really called "Discord")

01:50:50<Ajay>interesting, I always thought the word "discord" just was about general discussion. I guess I have not heard it much in general conversation though

22:40:08<@JAA>jut: Hedge funds shorted GameStop's stock (i.e. bet that it would decrease in value) by ridiculous amounts. GameStop's actually doing okay, so people bought the stock and it was rising for a couple months. Now their shorts expire, so they *have* to buy the shares back. But people realised what was happening and are buying and holding shares, which drives the price up. GME was at $10 not long ago, now
22:40:14<@JAA>it's at $300+. Today, the funds tried to artificially bring it down again by blocking retail investors temporarily from buying stock shortly after shorting the stock some more to reduce their losses.
