11:21:40<Lord_Nightmare>I have a bit of a legal conundrum here: I have a copy of near's old 'beat' patch utility for windows, called beat v0.1, to apply bps patches to files. this program was released under the gplv3, so i'm trying to find the source code for it.
11:22:02<Lord_Nightmare>the trouble is, the source code only existed at http://byuu.org/files/beat_v01.tar.xz and nobody mirrored it. and archive.org has that site blocked
11:22:15<Lord_Nightmare>so technically the distributed executable is illegal, since the source for it cannot be acquired
11:22:27<Lord_Nightmare>and I'm not sure what to do
11:23:02<Lord_Nightmare>there's a copy of beat v03 on github, but that version has bps patch applying broken (it immediately crashes)
11:26:14<Arcorann>Have you tried asking around in emulation communities
11:26:17<spirit>https://archive.org/download/byuus-historical-patching-tools/beat%202019/ ?
11:27:39<Lord_Nightmare>https://archive.org/download/byuus-historical-patching-tools/beat%202013/ v01 is the one i was after, and the source for that is gone
11:28:47<Lord_Nightmare>so that executable is in theory a legal problem, but its the only version which works?
11:28:54<Lord_Nightmare>unless the new version from 2019 fixed anything
11:29:34<Arcorann>Have you tried it?
11:29:45<Lord_Nightmare>compiling it now
11:39:04<Lord_Nightmare>it works

14:28:01<themadpro>Not sure if this is #archiveteam-bs or #archiveteam-ot territory so I'm sharing it here:
14:32:07<themadpro>Recently I went hunting for a former Myspace artist by the name of Joe Thurber
14:32:18<themadpro>http://web.archive.org/web/20101230020341/https://myspace.com/christmasmetal
14:36:03<themadpro>But in the process, I've made a rather unsettling discovery which I think #youtubearchive might be interested in
14:36:54<themadpro>Simply searching for Joe's name leads to his YouTube channel FreeMinstrel, that's not all https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/N0f6XRYI/SearchVideos.png
14:37:40<themadpro>Some of these videos are not visible on their channel, and don't seem to be privated/unlisted either
14:37:43<themadpro>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fVneP-IPxw
14:38:22<themadpro>The videos show no channel, no description and just jump straight to the comments https://usercontent.irccloud-cdn.com/file/byNckTbQ/Hallofthemountainking.png
14:39:36<themadpro>Pretty trippy, tbh I don't even understand what's going on here but this means that there is some kind of secret 4th option, besides "public, unlisted and private" videos
14:40:35<themadpro>And the good news is that they are cached in search, so you dig up 12 yearold videos like its nothing. Somehow I get the feeling that this is an artifact of early copyright protection mechanisms on the site, but that is purely speculation.

16:36:50<atphoenix>I don't see those results.
16:37:34<atphoenix>I get a 'This channel is not available.
16:37:34<atphoenix>' if I try to load /user/FreeMinstrel
16:42:31<themadpro>try https://www.youtube.com/user/freeminstrelmusic instead
16:44:35<atphoenix>I found one of the videos by searching for it's name https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ajQibekhIEo
16:46:45<atphoenix>that is certainly weird. looking at a specific video doesn't show the channel/user.
16:50:42<atphoenix>this one isn't in the channel you suggested
17:02:38<themadpro>77K views, description is visible on the preview
17:02:42<themadpro>and yet nada
17:20:32<atphoenix>what is the 'TR' next to the YouTube logo in your screenshot? When does that show up?
