14:22:45<@arkiver>if the server has limited resources and we have a ton of people trying to do the same thing, we may end up with a ton of partial "archives" made largely incorrectly, and any attempt to make a proper archive may become partial then too

21:02:06<Webuser404586>Hi all. I'd like to suggest a site for archiving: 976-tuna.com. It's a major Southern California sportfishing site with daily fish counts by landing and boat, yearly totals, boat and highliner pages, captains' audio reports (MP3s) and photos, going back many years. As far as I know, the owner has died and nobody else has access, so the site could
21:02:06<Webuser404586>go offline at any time.
21:04:20<Webuser404586>Details in case they help:
21:04:20<Webuser404586>Rough size: about 200k pages. Audio is roughly 35 GB, but that's estimated from a single file, so take it loosely.
21:04:20<Webuser404586>It has bot protection. After about 40 requests from one IP, every page redirects to a CAPTCHA, including the homepage.
21:04:20<Webuser404586>The MP3s and photos are served from a separate storage host that didn't rate-limit me, but their filenames are random IDs that are only linked from the protected pages.
21:04:20<Webuser404586>Wayback already has about 10.5k URLs from 2024 onward, mostly /posts and /news. The fish count pages (/landing/…/counts?m=&y=) are only partly covered, and that historical counts data is probably the most valuable part.
21:04:20<Webuser404586>Many charter boat sites embed 976-TUNA widgets, so dead embeds will show up across the SoCal fishing community if it disappears.
