13:48:53<qmastery>Good day, friends! ^_^
13:50:20<qmastery>I would like to archive a website and upload it to archive.org . To get an idea how the result may look like, I tried looking for archiveteam 's uploads , and i.e. found this https://archive.org/details/archiveteam_opendiary
13:50:54<qmastery>However, what is not clear to me - is why there are 22 uploads of the same website and similar file size?
13:51:46<TheTechRobo>Archives of websites here are usually split into multiple items on archive.org
13:53:07<TheTechRobo>Generally, uploads from most users aren't loaded into the wayback machine; if you tell us what site it is we may be able to get it saved (and accessible from the Wayback Machine)
13:54:25<qmastery>Dear Robo, thank you for your kind reply! So that means, if someone else wants to download as-big-as-possible copy of said website, he should download all these 22 uploads (included files named opendiary_20260302210414_cd00832f.megawarc.warc.gz) and somehow unite them? if yes, how?
13:55:26<qmastery>my usecase: i would like to create an offline copy of a website and share it so that the other people would be able to easily download and use it
13:57:39<h2ibot>KleaBot edited List of websites excluded from the Wayback Machine (+0, Reordered websites): https://wiki.archiveteam.org/?diff=60933&oldid=60932
13:59:39<klea>Which website do you want to make a offline copy for?, OpenDiary has got a project done, which means Warriors archived it, if it's a small site, it'll likely be suitable for ArchiveBot which is less likely to generate that many items.
14:00:34nexussfan (nexussfan) joins
14:00:55<klea>And, the megawarcs are already joined sets of more warcs, warcs aren't really easily human parsable, so people mostly use the wayback machine or other warc players on cases where they need to view website archives.
14:02:55<klea>Also, someone interested in downloading the OpenDiary warcs would have to contact the Internet Archive to get special access, since those warcs are access-restricted.
14:05:39Arcorann quits [Ping timeout: 268 seconds]

14:18:39<klea>And to see the full image requires reg.
14:18:59<qmastery>I would like to download https://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/ . The previous copy was 13 years ago (https://thepiratebay.org/description.php?id=9062758), made with some proprietary tool and this torrent looks dead
14:20:41<qmastery>there are a lot of very interesting materials on this website like https://www.bibliotecapleyades.net/vida_alien/esp_vida_alien_19a.htm
14:21:53<qmastery>I hope that grab-site could produce a similar user-friendly format of offline copy of this website
14:28:35<@arkiver>klea: thanks for the message on dlive/trovo/xeenon , having a look at it
14:28:45<@arkiver>but we cannot archive 100s of TBs of them currently :/
14:29:08<klea>Yeah, that's why I sent it to #[REDACTED]-unimportant (also for unactionable things)
14:29:33<qmastery>klea: what is better to use: ArchiveBot or grab-site, if I am likely to do all the archiving by myself
14:30:26<klea>qmastery: If you're going to be doing the archiving yourself only you probably want grab-site, ArchiveBot is mostly (AFAIK) only used by ArchiveTeam in #archivebot using some member supported machines.
14:31:03<qmastery>thank you very much for your kind help, I will try using your wonderful tool
14:31:14<klea>It's not mine :)
14:31:33<klea>Also, I suppose you wouldn't like to use it, since it will make warcs, instead of dumping the website into files.
14:31:59<klea>And you said a "user-friendly format", WARCs are more machine-friendly.
14:34:01<qmastery>oh... is there some way to either get the user-friendly html , or to somehow open these WARC's similar to how we are opening the local html with firefox ?
14:35:38<qmastery>klea: so that a random user can download my archive and read it with Firefox offline, without too much of a difficulty?
14:38:08<klea>There are programs that can read the warcs and display them as webpages. https://github.com/webrecorder/pywb/ https://replayweb.page/ (note, Browsertrix's recorder thing won't generate spec-compliant WARCs)
14:42:28<qmastery>Thank you very much, will try to follow your advices

17:29:51<Vito`>so, tl;dr, CBS News Radio is shutting down in ~6 weeks, but since 2008 their syndicated audio to their 700 affiliated stations was distributed through a (previously-open) S3 bucket. I scraped their redirector, generated possibly missing URLs, and scraped WayBack, and I'd love to see it all archived. The captures go through March 20, and there's a script to scrape and generate the rest of them closer to shutdown.
