20:47:01<qwertyasdfuiopghjkl>Does "explicit request" mean "ask the owner for permission to archive" or "the owner needs to somehow find out about Archive Team themselves and come ask for archival"?
20:53:17<qwertyasdfuiopghjkl>(I'm guessing it's the first one since the second one wouldn't make much sense, but the wording is a bit ambiguous)

22:25:13<benjins>I scraped Ballotpedia for websites/social media related to US election candidates (~20K candidats in total). If there's a way to get the URLs into archivebot/etc, it'd be appreciated, assuming we don't have good coverage of it
22:25:14<benjins>It's available in JSON form at https://transfer.archivete.am/U2Y3T/ballotpedia_candidate_external_links_2022_nov06_v1.zip
22:25:14<benjins>and as a Google spreadsheet at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Zb-_pTfXOJGPvpmdPb8fpBpGl6W_ES4dIipXxx9OXvc/edit?usp=sharing
22:25:14<benjins>If there's any other munging that needs to be done lemme know and I can re-export it
22:25:35<atphoenix>My interpretation: As a distributed system, there are many instances, each with potentially different owners, each with their own quirks. Someone connected to the instance (user? member? vested interest?) should have a conversation about archiving with the instance owner (and possibly others on that instance). And if the owner wants ArchiveTeam to take archival action, then said owner should clearly let ArchiveTeam know as much. I
22:25:35<atphoenix>think it also means don't expect ArchiveTeam to drive the discussion or try to find/contact/convince the instance owners to let the instance be archived. That's a decision for the instance owner to make, possibly via discussion within that community.

23:38:02<@JAA>Yeah, that sounds about right to me.
23:59:12<qwertyasdfuiopghjkl>atphoenix: Thanks for the clarification. If there's agreement on that interpretation being accurate, it should probably be added to https://wiki.archiveteam.org/index.php/Mastodon to fix the current ambiguity. (I do think it would make sense to notify any instances that are shutting down about the possibility of archiving the site, rather than
23:59:12<qwertyasdfuiopghjkl>assuming it has already been considered.)
