00:48:23<nirv>uhh, so I think I figured out why TPB geocities website is stuck at 99.9%.
00:48:47<nirv>it's because windows can't have the same file name in the same folder. there's a lot of similar file names with a single case difference. that's it. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/872443255281844236/946931553307602944/unknown.png

00:51:18<@JAA>Ah, stupid Windows again.
00:52:00<nirv>this is going to be tricky
00:52:00<@JAA>But yeah, that makes sense.
00:52:03<thuban>amazing. i suppose the presence of part of G-r (despite the presence of G-R) and absence of G-y etc (despite the absence of G-Y etc) could be explained by the torrent chunking.
00:52:20<nirv>no, thuban. they're also https://archive.org/download/2009-archiveteam-geocities-part6

00:53:14<@JAA>IIRC, you can tell Windows to behave like a normal OS and allow files with names that only differ in case.
00:53:27<nirv>"normal OS" that's a cold shot, mister :P
00:53:31<Doranwen>LOL
00:53:31<@JAA>Might depend on the file system type though.
00:54:03<nirv>wellllll I can try extracting somewhere and when it gets to that point, hopefully it prompts and asks me where the damn file is
00:54:10<nirv>and I can just point to a different folder
00:54:39<@JAA>https://www.howtogeek.com/354220/how-to-enable-case-sensitive-folders-on-windows-10/
00:54:41<nirv>the thing I'm curious about is are there same file names in a single folder in the actual extracted files. if so I'm screwed
00:54:59<nirv>I'll check it out thanks.

21:17:09<nirv>this is the most frustrating torrent I ever got in my life. I was at 99.9% complete with geocities archive. I enabled case sensitive files on my windows drive so I can actually have all the files in one folder, I fill missing files from archive.org, recheck torrent, and now I'm down to 99.7%. the bad files aren't even the ones I replaced. ugghh
21:20:17<LetMeByte>nirv why not just spin up a cheapo linux vps? that would solve your problem
21:28:32<nirv>I could. I'll deal with it later but I'm just thinking out loud right now. it's already going to take a lot of time to sift through the data but if getting it takes as long...

23:09:16<queenmab>You know, Livejournal is owned now by Sberbank (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sberbank) in Russia. Will the sanctions effect the site? I think this project should be moved up.
23:13:49<thuban>queenmab: livejournal is not currently an active project.
23:15:37<thuban>i am working on a livejournal module for snscrape, and have increased my personal priority for it, but i have other demands on my time
23:16:18<queenmab>Do you think it is in danger?
23:17:45<queenmab>It seems like all Russian-owned websites should be given priority.
23:20:06<queenmab>Well, Ukrainian more so.
23:20:58<@arkiver>telegram coming up first, after that perhaps livejournal
23:25:47<queenmab>I've tried to do it on my own but Livejournal but its ip-block is so easy to trigger by too many connections. It's gotten worse over the years. How do your tools get around things like that?
23:26:37<thuban>distribution, mostly, coupled with careful rate-limiting.
23:27:49<thuban>i'm afraid that if-when we do start archiving livejournals, the focus is likely be on current events, not the fandom stuff you're probably more interested in. but of course you'll be welcome to use our tools
23:28:54<thuban>in the meantime, if you have any information about what rates will or won't trigger ip blocks, i'd love to hear it
23:29:02<queenmab>I'd like that. I usually use Autoit or wget. I should try wget with a rate limit.
23:30:21<queenmab>I should do some tests. It's gotten much harder to save LJs than it was a few years ago because of their increased blocking.
23:35:49<thuban>speaking of snscrape and rate-limiting, JAA, what's the philosophy on optional fields in the dataclasses? i've been trying to decide how to implement the 'minimal requests' mode we talked about; do you think it would be better to have a PostRef class with that minimum information and a child Post class with the full details (reserving Optional types for fields that really
23:35:51<thuban>might or might not be present in the source), or just have one Post class and slap Optional on everything?
