00:43:38<anarcat>also, the site is kind of messy, with the frontpage being a google map or something

18:49:04<@JAA>Hmm, looking into it, I'm a bit confused by the IDs. Recent preprints have IDs around 820 million, but recent papers are only around 35 million.
18:51:03<@JAA>Only preprints have those high IDs it seems, all other 'paper' entries (cf. 'secondary type' filter on the right side on https://www.meta.org/search ) are in that 35M range.
18:52:49<@JAA>URLs contain a slug, but it can be replaced with a single dash and still loads. Something then rewrites the window.location, but I haven't found it yet.
18:53:53<protondonor>the 35M slugs for recent papers might be pubmed IDs
18:54:11<protondonor>e.g. https://www.meta.org/papers/gd2-car-t-cell-therapy-for-h3k27m-mutated-diffuse/35130560 the slug seems to match the PMID
18:54:41<@JAA>The slug doesn't appear in the HTML though nor is it retrieved via XHR as far as I can see.
18:55:04<@JAA>I have a feeling that it's basically just the title with non-alphanumeric characters stripped and whitespace replaced with dashes.

18:56:33<protondonor>oh, i meant IDs not slugs, d'oh

18:57:49<sallysue>hello!
18:57:58<@JAA>In fact, the paper pages have a PMID at the top when they're proper papers.
18:58:05<sallysue>i have some questions pertaining to the wayback machine, and i was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers
18:58:42<@JAA>sallysue: Depending on whether or not it's related to ArchiveTeam, you might want to go to #internetarchive instead.
18:58:55<sallysue>thank you!
18:58:57<sallysue>that is a good call
18:59:52<protondonor>the ID for preprints doesn't seem to appear on the biorxiv page so I'm guessing it's a meta.org-internal ID
19:00:04<protondonor>it also doesn't seem derived from the DOI
19:00:30<@JAA>Yeah
19:00:43<@JAA>The IDs are sequential across various preprint servers, so obviously not coming from there.
19:01:02<@JAA>MedRxiv example: https://www.meta.org/papers/results-from-edifice-a-french-pilot-study-on/820242862
19:01:29sallysue leaves
19:01:31sallysue joins
19:03:33<protondonor>they do seem to be sequential because you can increment or decrement the ID and get another valid paper
19:06:04<protondonor>this is the earliest consecutive ID in that range I think https://www.meta.org/papers/time-to-sars-cov-2-clearance-among-patients-with/820161000
19:08:07<@JAA>Nope: https://www.meta.org/papers/estimating-the-effect-of-social-distancing/820151001
19:08:18<@JAA>Some IDs don't exist, not sure whether that's retractions or something else.
19:08:43<protondonor>oh huh
19:09:40<protondonor>maybe they get promoted to the other ID type when they get published and thereby get a PMID?
19:10:38<@JAA>Nope, that paper I just linked also has a full publication entry: https://www.meta.org/papers/estimating-the-effect-of-social-distancing/33406533
19:11:10<protondonor>wow, okay, weird
19:11:18<protondonor>some of them have IDs like methodspaper-### https://www.meta.org/papers/establishment-of-kidney-cancer-organoid/methodspaper-3295843
19:11:30<@JAA>Yes, there are a few more of those.
19:12:01<@JAA>proceedingspaper, datafile, methodspaper, software, and clinicalstudyrecord are the ones I found.
19:12:30<protondonor>that sounds right
19:15:32<protondonor>this is another ID range https://www.meta.org/papers/a-time-domain-phase-diagram-of-metastable-states/1500103380
19:15:59<@JAA>Ugh
19:16:23<protondonor>it appears that researchsquare and preprints.org (e.g. https://www.meta.org/papers/information-geometry-of-non-equilibrium-processes/1500065794) use one ID range, and biorxiv and medrxiv use a different one
