00:01:52<anonymoususer852>I'm running 4.1 version of AT Warrior, with one on bare metal, and could audibly hear that machine whenever it is automatically rebooted.

03:51:05<@chfoo>i think a decade ago, it was supposed to help avoid bugs/memory leaks in the code/kernel/hypervisor, and to abort tasks stuck in an infinite download loop.
03:51:26<@chfoo>i don't remember why the reboot behavior was replicated when we switched to docker.
03:53:51<@chfoo>it probably makes sense to just restart the services instead. but to be fair, the images were never intended to run on bare metal. i didn't even know it would work.

04:16:56<@chfoo>you might be able to edit the appliance config file to not reboot, but i'm not sure if it will not break anything.

08:55:40<anonymoususer852>Thanks for your response. "...it was supposed to help avoid bugs/memory leaks..." I believe that still applies, especially if one is either running larger projects like // (URLs) and/or exceeding beyond say 6 workers via the CLI. v4.1 of the VM appliance is shipped with an older kernel which these days you could use zram (compressed RAM) as swap, which should really be a thing that's used, but
08:55:46<anonymoususer852>newer kernel versions (via "apk update;apk upgrade") does allow the use of zstd as compressor which is pretty efficient, in my opinion. Without swap, larger projects or running beyond fixed, web UI limitations of 6 workers may trigger OOM (Out Of Memory) killer, which, well, kills whatever task that appears to be taking up the most amount of significant resources, and that in itself can produce
08:55:52<anonymoususer852>wonderful results. In the past OOM killer wasn't all that great at knowing which processes are vital for a functioning environment, but that feature has improved since.
08:58:16<anonymoususer852>It works on bare metal. I decided to use that to save time setting up a spare old laptop which I have no use otherwise. The setup was tricky, and I did plan on writing up a page on wiki, but the technique I used is most likely outdated.
09:00:55<anonymoususer852>"you might be able to edit the appliance config file to not reboot,..." I'm not sure where to look. I initially tried to do a hack via removing the files that has the Unix timestamp for when reboot was required, in /tmp, but no luck there. Also tried renaming the reboot binary, but that resulted in machine still functioning, just without web UI, and I cannot use SSH, where my setup usually has
09:01:01<anonymoususer852>SSH access instead.
09:06:47<anonymoususer852>TL;DR, the VM appliance is great if the user intends to run smaller projects, and doesn't go beyond 6 concurrency. My use-case is an exception, but I feel some of the stuff I did to my setup, especially with zram as swap could potentially help. I also feel the default 512MB RAM limit might be a bit low as well.
