15:03:54<Grzesiek11_>does derive re-derive all files each time it's ran? or is it only ran once per file
15:04:00Grzesiek11_ is now known as Grzesiek11
15:04:55<Grzesiek11>it's taking a long time per uploaded file now that I have a lot of files
15:12:33<Grzesiek11>"a long time" being 16 hours by now
15:14:09<Grzesiek11>the reason I'm waiting for it is that I heard I shouldn't continue uploading before derive finishes
15:14:18<Grzesiek11>and it errored out a couple hours ago
15:15:09<Grzesiek11>but there was also a comment (on this channel) saying this is not about derive, but about archive, which I don't think is queued for the item
16:15:49<TheTechRobo>If a task is errored (red in the item history viewer), it won't run any more tasks until the problem is fixed
16:16:34<Grzesiek11>it's running, not errored
16:16:56<Grzesiek11>just asking if it's normal for this to take this much time
16:17:18<Grzesiek11>and if I can resume uploading safely
16:17:29<Grzesiek11>without overwriting existing files

19:27:19<nicolas17>Grzesiek11: afaik running "ia upload --checksum" will fail to detect that identical files already exist and will not skip re-uploading them, if *any* tasks are still running
19:40:46<@JAA>... or queued, yes.
19:42:10<@JAA>Unrelated uploads are fine. They may eventually interrupt the derive. A later derive won't rederive the already-derived files. (The word 'derive' is beginning to look funny now.)
19:59:56<that_lurker>You could also upload and always set it to not derive and then manually start it when you are done.
