17:51:37<Grzesiek11>hello, are those guidelines up to date? https://help.archive.org/help/uploading-what-is-not-ok-or-not-ok-to-upload/

17:52:03<Grzesiek11>ie. are we limited to 500 GB or 500 files, and aren't supposed to upload things that aren't lost yet?
17:53:01<Grzesiek11>also, what are examples of "files that deserve to be together"
17:54:56<pokechu22>I think it's generally something that's obvious from context - e.g. with wikibot, when we export images from a mediawiki site, all of the images from that site are bundled together into one 7z file, rather than trying to replicate the original layout directly in the item
17:57:03<Grzesiek11>https://help.archive.org/help/uploading-troubleshooting/ conflicting info here
17:57:49<Grzesiek11>(files up to 500-700 GB, up to 1 TB item size, up to 10000 files, 250000 files being a hard limit)
17:58:38<Grzesiek11>https://help.archive.org/help/uploading-tips/ conflicting info here
17:59:05<Grzesiek11>(files up to 50 GB, up to 1000 files)
17:59:19<pokechu22>I guess in general, if someone would almost always want to download all of the files together, it makes sense to zip them together, but if there are situations where one frequently only cares about a single file then it should be separate. Note that you *can* download individual files from a zip without downloading the whole zip
17:59:42<Grzesiek11>that makes sense

19:42:31<TheTechRobo>Grzesiek11: 1TB is the hard cap for an entire item. 500GB is probably just a recommendation (or perhaps a previous limit)

19:43:52<Grzesiek11>so the second last link is the most up to date?
19:50:25<Grzesiek11>what about the "While we strive to preserve materials that are at risk of being lost we do not want to mirror items that are online without actual evidence that their removal is imminent." part
19:51:56<@JAA>1 TiB* :-)
19:56:36<Grzesiek11>good to know since the difference between 1 TB and 1 TiB is not insubstantial
19:56:51<Grzesiek11>it's like 100 GiB
20:00:20<@JAA>Just under 100 GB, yeah
20:00:58<@JAA>It's a good idea not to get too close to the limit so there's still room for derived files.
