21:20:02<h3ndr1k>Hey, maybe you can help me quick. I have all videos of a youtube channel that closed down a few years ago sadly. In IA there are some of the videos, but not all. I would like to upload my "backup" of that channel too. I downloaded the ia binary, but how exactly do I create a collection for this? Do I even have to create one? How can I group my files? I would pack all files (mkv, jpg, srt) of one video into one zip and upload one zip per
21:20:02<h3ndr1k>video. But I am a bit lost about how to properly "curate"(?) it. Docs say something about not being able to change metadata, so should I specify --metadata="mediatype:movies"? Also do I specify --metadata="collection:foo"? And how do I determine the collection?
21:20:27<h3ndr1k>Btw. It's Ambuchannel 112. Forgot that.
21:40:31<OrIdow6>You cannot create a collection as a normal user
21:41:04<OrIdow6>What I usually see people doing is uploading them all as one item
21:41:10<OrIdow6>If the total size isn't too big
21:43:44<OrIdow6>I think that metadata stuff is right, though I'm not a heavy user of the ia tool
21:44:54<h3ndr1k>Can I add multiple files to one item? It would be nice to be able to download single videos.
21:45:34<nicolas17>yes
21:45:50<h3ndr1k>There is the item "Ambuchannel_112" but it's a giant zip.
21:45:56<OrIdow6>It might be helpful for you to read https://archive.org/services/docs/api/items.html
21:46:39<OrIdow6>Which is a short introduction to IA items and some related concepts
21:48:02<h3ndr1k>Thanks
22:25:38<h3ndr1k>I just started uploading one zip per video. Would it be better to upload without zipping? Can mkv's be watched on archive.org? I think browsers don't really like mkv anyway.
22:26:07<nicolas17>zip probably won't save any space, videos are already compressed
22:26:37<nicolas17>and if you upload the video directly, archive.org can convert it and provide it in other formats
22:31:09<h3ndr1k>Yeah I was thinking to group video, thumbnail and subtitles. But when it will be converted, I will cancel and upload as is.
23:15:03<h3ndr1k>Oh wow. 12s/MiB. First, what a unit is that? :) Second, that will take literaly over a year to upload the 110GB. lol
23:16:20<h3ndr1k>Wait, it's 140GB even. Is there some trick to speed this up?
23:17:30<@JAA>https://wiki.archiveteam.org/index.php/Internet_Archive#Upload_speed
23:56:41<nicolas17>JAA: that seems like advice if you have 1000Mbit Internet and you're only getting 100Mbit speeds, not on what to do if you only get 100KB/s...
