01:46:55<immibis>when recursive wget encounters a URL like http://example.com/directory that redirects to http://example.com/directory/ it saves as example.com/directory (not example.com/directory/index.html) and then when it encounters http://example.com/directory/file it deletes the example.com/directory file to make it a directory instead. How to fix this?

19:26:50<@kaz>wow thats a name i haven't heard in a while
19:27:48<@kaz>I have an email from 10 years ago where they sent me it on server creation :)
19:28:22<TheTechRobo>Right now the person I'm trying to help is actually having a different issue. He set a VNC password, and so now the VNC web client isn't working... and he can't unset it.
19:28:36<TheTechRobo>For some reason there's no option to disable it that he can find.
19:29:08za3k joins
19:30:04<@kaz>most vps hosts these days have an option to just drop you to a console connection to the vm, could just jump in there (and reset the root pw if needed)
19:30:34<TheTechRobo>kaz: I think that's what the VNC client is for, as it drops you to a TTY. But the TTY requires login.
19:31:04<TheTechRobo>He set the VNC password trying to see if it would set the root password, but it just broke the VNC client.
19:32:51<@kaz>well yes it'll have a password, you want singleuser mode or whatever to reset the root pw
19:33:03<@kaz>if you've really locked yourself out, time for a ticket into Iniz I suppose
19:33:49<TheTechRobo>kaz: Well the settings do have a "root password" changing tool I think, we just didn't see it. But the problem now is the VNC client. Might try VNCing directly, rather than trying the web client, but I doubt it'll work. I suggested he file a ticket, yeah.
19:34:11<TheTechRobo>Kind of a major oversight if you can lock yourself out of VNC so easily. Unless I'm missing something - maybe there's a button he hasn't seen or something.
19:34:52<@kaz>I mean 'i set a password on something and now i can't get in' is pretty standard behaviour if you somehow managed to do that wrong
19:35:04<@kaz>but it's been many years since I've been in that portal so i have no idea how you'd manage that these days
19:35:29<TheTechRobo>kaz: The web VNC client doesn't let you input a password, so I'm not sure why it's an option, other than if you can VNC in from elsewhere.
19:36:07<TheTechRobo>I'd look around myself but I don't have an Iniz account.
19:38:32<@kaz>this feels like user error really
19:38:44<masterX244>most modern hosters can either stomp in a new root PW via webinterface or allow you to boot into a recovery system thats like a "live usb stick" on a regular PC
19:38:56<@kaz>I'm sure it's all recoverable, but given these things sell for £4/mo i imagine they see tickets like this all day every day
19:39:08<TheTechRobo>kaz: I know, I'm more trying to figure out how to fix it for the guy.
19:41:34<masterX244>gah, help site not very helpful
19:42:06<TheTechRobo>masterX244: Yeah, only way I figured out that you even CAN change the root password from the dashboard is an outdated screenshot hidden on one of the pages.
