19:38:15<Jake>have you considered renting some machines somewhere instead?
19:38:37<Jake>(most) proxies would likely not be very well suited for that many requests
19:38:43<Jake>costs would probably be better as well
20:07:39<IDK>Jake: you mean something like renting a /24 block for 256 per month on top of the 48 dollar on the actual server
20:08:00<IDK>Would that be considered "cheap" nowdays
20:08:25<Jake>I mean that seems particularly inefficient. Renting something like a DigitalOcean droplet for $5/m with some extra bandwidth costs seems easier than any proxy.
20:10:43<IDK>Oh yea you mean that, wait do DO even offer 5 dollar VPS
20:11:36<IDK>Oh just checked
20:15:31<IDK>Jake: they have bandwidth limits tho
20:16:33<IDK>OVH is probably better for their $4,20 VPS

21:44:15<audrooku|m><Jake> "(most) proxies would likely..." <- Jake: I haven't considered renting machines, would that be economical? I doubt I could get under a dollar/machine, I think I can get unlimited bandwidth on 100 with webshare for less (and they *can* handle it) but I was just wondering if it'd be cheaper
21:44:24<audrooku|m>If it could be cheaper*
21:45:05<audrooku|m>Isnt this basically what webshare is for? Mass-scraping? They say their 5000 proxy option is their most popular
21:49:00<Jake>I haven't looked into webshare specifically, but most of the proxy services I'm aware of are pretty expensive, far more expensive than renting machines would be. Performance is usually... not great as well. That service does seem much cheaper than other services I've seen.
21:53:25<audrooku|m>Do you have any numbers on what renting cheap machines looks like? I know Amazon lightsail has $3.50/mo machines
22:04:51<Jake>Hetzner, Linode, and DigitalOcean are all around 4-5/m for the cheapest node. You're also getting compute and storage out of it, rather than just IPs.
