22:33:57<Doranwen>other than his occasional "where did this icon go" (spoiler: he accidentally clicked and dragged it off the dock, but it was *that* easy to restore) and a little sadness that his pretty screensaver/picture slideshow mix was now only a true screensaver, he's been happy with the Linux-that-looks-like-Mac that I put on his "new" computer

22:55:13<Doranwen>fortunately I was able to figure out what to do by someone mentioning Youtube videos - I kept forgetting that people did guides on stuff there, and after a bit I managed to settle on something that would work
22:55:38<Doranwen>it might not match *perfectly*, but my grandpa wasn't in love with Mac design or anything, it was just a matter of keeping stuff in roughly the same place and with the same icons as far as possible so he wasn't totally lost as to what to do

22:58:22<systwi>My family is a bit difficult on that. I grew up with a mix of System 7 and WinXP, and my parents have been using Macintoshes since the 90s and have stuck with them since. I don't mind the OS......sometimes......and when it works, but take that all with a grain of salt, hehehe.
23:00:33<systwi>I prefer the freedom/open nature of Linux, intuitiveness of the GNU coreutils, the non-proprietary-ness of your standardized IBM PC compatible hardware, the speed and efficiency of it all, and the <insert another point here>.

23:14:23<systwi>I haven't been using GNU/Linux very extensively, aside from on servers and some older computers, but I have been using Artix GNU/Linux with MATE for about 10 months now. I used Arch with Cinnamon before that, but distro hopped a while later.

23:40:34<Doranwen>systwi: yeah, I don't remember what all I set up - I followed someone's instructions to set it up so I could run the yahoo grabbing script, and I didn't try to run more than six instances of it on that computer, as it was hard enough managing the six separate windows
