10:39:28<@OrIdow6>Probably moreso than I actually play video games
10:43:08<@Sanqui>OrIdow6: unfortunately, the longplays.org people don't seem interesetd in releasing input recordings
10:43:35<@Sanqui>apparently because they fear somebody would "steal" their longplays and upload it to their youtube
10:44:08<@Sanqui>I can't say I fully understand the mentality because if I'm devoting a hobby towards sharing longplays I want them to be as useful and widely shared as possible, but eh

11:11:18<@Sanqui>Movie files have many nice properties, they're like a collection of savestates on steroid, allowing resuming from any point in the game; allowing for reading the RAM as the game goes; and perfect quality screenshots and videos, and best of all, they're free from copyright (the person playing the game can release it under CC or PD)
11:11:41<@Sanqui>all of these properties are useful to speedrunners, content creators, debuggers, historians
11:12:06<@Sanqui>it's a shame we stick with just youtube videos when it's not that difficult to step it up

22:15:52<systwi>TheTechRobo: CTGP still gets updates? Hah, I think my copy is from 2012 or something.
22:21:58<systwi>Sanqui: Re: emulator movies and longplays, I do the same thing! I record many longplays I do in emulators as "movies;" then export those to lossless, GIANT AVIs; then losslessly compress the video with something like ZMB, the audio with FLAC and remux it to an MKV. I ultimately will keep both.
22:23:04<systwi>On real hardware I record gameplay on DVRs and even VHS tapes (lossily in most cases, as the signal is lossy coming out of the console anyway).
22:24:58<systwi>I have 10+ SP-speed VHS tapes of an unfinished Pokémon Diamond (Telefang Power) longplay, with only some of the later parts (grinding) omitted.
22:25:25<systwi>Recorded from WinXP over S-Video to an S-VHS VCR. ;-)
22:25:43<systwi>(using VHS tapes though, I didn't have S-VHS tapes at the time)
22:26:06<systwi>Ahh, you got me started on VHS again. :-)
22:26:08systwi laughs
22:27:04<systwi>s/grinding/about 45 mins of grinding/
22:28:57<systwi>I wish more emulators allowed for "movie" recordings. I know it's tough on consoles like the Wii, where the whole NAND dump (and keys.bin) would likely need to be included with it (assuming it's used).
