21:12:30<@JAA>There are also dpkg commands in various instructions around the web. Another good way to mess up the system, and another thing that the uninitiated probably shouldn't have to touch at all.
21:13:18<TheTechRobo>JAA: Ok NO BEGINNER should be using dpkg. There is no reason other than making apt shut up about dep issues (which beginners shouldn't be doing anyway). Use apt with ./file.deb or gdebi.
