19:18:38<Gareth48>Hey all, someone told me they mentioned my desire to archive https://store.vket.com/en in here. As a recap its purchases are going to be closed in the next 12 days and the site afterwards (as outlined by this post: https://archive.org/details/vket-chan-1-v-2.0.4-1 ). I can't see that message since I don't seem to have a chat history here but if you
19:18:38<Gareth48>have any questions about the site feel free to ask me and I'll answer them based on what I know. I'm going to be focused primarily archiving the official downloadable content (likely with a webscraper) but it seems like y'all are much more capable on the website front so your expertise there would be invaluable.
19:18:38<Gareth48>Also just as a heads up I'm not super familiar with IRC, mostly used to discord. Would appreciate any client recommendations and a bit of grace if I break IRC social protocol.

20:14:52<betamax>Gareth48: hi, this is betamax from the discord :)
20:15:36<Gareth48>betamax hello, I am woefully out of my depth here any advice would be appreciated lol.
20:15:53<betamax>no worries :)
20:16:57<Gareth48>betamax so there doesn't seem to be a chat history I can access for anything before my first message. masterX244 said they mentioned this in the channel on discord but I have no idea if any action was taken regarding it
20:16:59<betamax>looks like no one has come forward so I'm happy to step up to put things in to archivebot if you're OK with doing the occasional check on the web viewer to make sure it's not misbehaving (e.g. stop it trying to buy all the items in the store :D )
20:18:47<betamax>Gareth48: step 1 is I put the site into archivebot, hopefully it'll run smoothly or I/others may need to tweak it until it behaves itself
20:20:05<Gareth48>betamax yeah that sounds reasonable, I'd be happy to keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't get stuck trying to buy things for endless ages. I assume you'll add it to the bot (since i do not have access to that channel at all)
20:20:05<betamax>for the assets / etc. rather than you downloading directly yourself, if you're able to get me a big .txt file of all the URLs of the assets, I can stick that into archviebot and it'll grab those too
20:20:33<betamax>that way you save on bandwidth and the assets appear in wayback machine too
20:20:55<Gareth48>betamax since its a shop interface I don't think we're going to be that lucky. Let me try buying something and actually confirm how the URL works first but I'm fairly confident its an account/token setup
20:22:16<Gareth48>betamax yeah you have to be logged in to download anything. I assume that's a non starter?
20:22:49<pokechu22>Yeah, archivebot can't do anything that requires being logged in (but depending on the site you might get a list of pages that you need to be logged in for, which you could use separately)
20:24:35<Gareth48>It seems to generate an "order" on the backend with a unique number every time you go to get an asset which includes a download link. Trying to access these orders pages anonymously redirects you home unfortunately
20:25:22<betamax>Yeah that's the sort of link we'd want to avoid hitting over and over if it's just a redirect to homepage
20:25:30<betamax>in theory should be simple to prevent it doing that
20:25:45<betamax>*in theory == requires me to rememeber regex :P
20:26:10<Gareth48>Agreed, it means we'll need to be multi-faceted in our approach. The important part of the website will be the actual entries for the products and information pages. On my end I'll try and write a webscraper or macro of some kind that downloads the actual assets
20:26:49<Gareth48>My end goal will be to just reupload whatever I got to internet archive and populate relevant fields with the information from the store pages
20:27:01<Gareth48>It wont be everything because a ton of these assets arent free but it'll at least be something
20:27:28<betamax>so it's now in archivebot but there's a queue (around 50 sites before it)
20:27:41<Gareth48>Sadly I do not have like 8 trillion dollars so I cant just purchase everything lol
20:27:50<pokechu22>Only 5 actually, the "other queues" stuff is stuff targetting a specific pipeline
20:28:07<pokechu22>(though depending on where things finish, jobs targetting specific pipelines will start first)
20:28:14<betamax>hah lol I *really* can't read this evening :D
20:28:28<betamax>blame it on the fact I'm trying to debug a broken k8s cluster at the same time
20:28:52<Gareth48>betamax got it, are you starting with the top level domain https://store.vket.com/ ? since there is a https://store.vket.com/ja and also https://store.vket.com/en which both ought to be grabbed, especially ja since its the original language
20:29:06<betamax>Gareth48: so it should appear on the dashboard (http://archivebot.com/3) soon, then we can be more specific about excluding pages from the archive if they're just redirects or causing issues
20:29:34<Gareth48>I'm not sure exactly how intelligent archviebot is with this stuff since its my first time working alogside it so I want to make sure
20:30:08<betamax>ah... I think in that case I did it wrong, I did /en but ArchiveBot will also get links to /jp
20:30:44<Gareth48>betamax sounds good, if I'm going to keep using IRC how do I make an account. I'm fairly confident if I close and re-open this page its going to vaporize the entire chat history and I really kind of want information permanence.
20:30:48<betamax>if I wanted just en then I should have done /en/ instead of /en
20:31:13<Gareth48>betamax theres a link to the ja page on most pages also via the language tab so it should figure it out
20:31:29<betamax>oh, ok that's fine then
20:32:17<betamax>Gareth48: feel free to try to figure out how the IRC accounts work, I figured it out once and this remote VM has been up for.... *checks notes* a little over 5 years so I haven't had to worry for a while :D
20:32:29<betamax>I can always update you on anything you missed over discord
20:33:10<betamax>ah.... I've been kindly informed about http://archivebot.com/pending which shows it as the next job to go in
20:33:15<betamax>so very soon now
20:34:09<betamax>and that's it in!
20:36:36<betamax>Gareth48: if it's not obvious, you can expand it with the "..." button and use the filter button (bottom left of job) to restrict it to just that job which makes it easier on your browser

21:49:28<pokechu22>3ce6258bdd19f830c950eef0ce which expire after a certain amount of time
21:49:32<pokechu22>and since archivebot is breadth-first search, they're expired by the time they get used
21:50:13<vitzli>I put youtube channels related to USAGM - Radio Free Europe (RFERL) and Radio Free Asia (RFA) on VOA page, turns out there is a stub page right now for Radio Free Asia, but no RFERL one, should I create it?
21:50:55<betamax>pokechu22: ugh, any way round that other than blocking all of the https://vket-store-production.s3.ap-northeast-1.amazonaws.com bucket ?
21:51:38<pokechu22>nope, and more annoyingly that's all the images for the site, which seems kinda important
21:51:48<pokechu22>vitzli: sure, that seems like something that's worth creating
21:52:15<pokechu22>Though it might be better to redirect Radio Free Asia to the VOA article and create a similar redirect for RFERL

22:42:17<TheTechRobo>Gareth48: If you want chat history you will either have to use a desktop IRC client that stays connected all the time, or a bouncer that stays connected all the time in the background. IRC doesn't currently have any decent way of giving chat history.
22:43:51<TheTechRobo>Hackint has a Matrix bridge that a lot of people use. In that case, the Matrix homeserver will stay connected for you.
