Going private could give them breathing room to focus on actually creating value. All depends on the capital firm and their goals. Some have a standard MO of buying companies and selling piecemeal.

18:52:45<@JAA>Generally, we archive publicly available content. Things using accounts are virtually always excluded from the WBM, although they can be uploaded to IA so a motivated person could load the WARCs with something like pywb.

It's also possible to upload it to IA and lock down access there, which would preserve the data without your actively keeping it safe while preventing access by random people.
