04:41:15<ArcticCircleSystem>C: Best case scenario, a lot of their ebooks get removed, and at worst, the whole site could end up shutting down if the damages end up being too much.

04:49:55<Jake>ah yes, back up the internet archive

05:07:05<ArcticCircleSys>C: That's cool, though if the Internet Archive as an organization goes down, that's gonna go down too.
05:07:12<ArcticCircleSys>C: Which is worrying.

16:16:52<catern>hello, fairly basic question but I feel like I must be missing something: is there a tool I can run to just extract a WARC to a directory tree? nothing on https://wiki.archiveteam.org/index.php/The_WARC_Ecosystem seems to both 1. do that and 2. be maintained. I may be missing something about the WARC format that makes this nontrivial to do?

16:21:07<@Sanqui>catern: you can try warc2html
16:21:28<@Sanqui>it's very possible, it just may be a lossier information than you think
16:23:24<catern>Sanqui: ah, I'll try that, thanks!
16:23:37<@Sanqui>let us know how it goes, I haven't tried it yet!
16:24:51<catern>can you say maybe what in particular might be lossy? I just want to extract the RDF files out of https://archive.org/details/dmoz-rdf-20150327 (and then I have to figure out how to query RDF sigh) which, yeah I'll see how it goes
16:26:46<@Sanqui>I was thinking in terms of websites. Getting a file shouldn't be a big problem
16:27:17<@Sanqui>Now I wonder if it would be possible to write a FUSE reader for WARCs. Honestly, warcs are a pretty bad format, but they do tend to have indexes at least.
16:27:23<thuban>catern: don't quote me but i believe unar supports warc
16:29:44<catern>Sanqui: a FUSE reader is exactly what I was hoping for going in :)
16:31:14<catern>okay, warc2html worked great actually! thanks Sanqui!
16:31:32<@Sanqui>awesome, that makes me more confident to pick it up when I need it, thanks!
